All about Bezel & Wrist Strap kits for Segway InfoKeys

The Segway Infokey conveniently "docks" onto the plastic Dock mounted on the top of the Segway Personal Transporter's (PT's) LeanSteer Frame. Normal wear happens after many insertions and removals, and both the Dock and the Dock Bezel should be replaced as soon as you notice anything less than a nice, tight fit. The Dock Bezel is the ring that screws onto the bottom of the InfoKey and enables it to slide into the Dock. Replacement kits are $45+GST).

In addition to keeping it in your pocket, there are two other handy ways to carry the InfoKey. By replacing the Dock Bezel with the Lanyard Bezel your InfoKey can be worn around your neck. Or as a pocket watch, perhaps? With the Segway Wrist Strap kit you can wear your InfoKey like a wrist watch. This kit includes a Segway branded velcro wrist strap, plus a Watch Bezel to correctly orientate the InfoKey on your arm ($45+GST).

As a super-useful bonus, once you have the Segway Wrist Strap you can combine it with the Dock Bezel and wrap it around the LeanSteer Frame to secure the InfoKey. Even if the InfoKey becomes dislodged from the Dock, it remains secured around the shaft of the InfoKey and does not get lost. You can't really wear the InfoKey + Dock Bezel + Wrist Strap as wristwatch because the "face" is orientated all wrong - it is rotated 90 degrees and lays horizontally across your wrist. Equally, while the the Watch Bezel will slide into the Dock, the "face" is orientated 90 degrees (horizontally). Bezel3.jpg Remember that with normal use the Dock and the Dock Bezel will eventually wear out.
  • The front 'lip' or the rear 'lip' of the Dock will wear, or can get damaged. This 'lip' holds the Bezel (and it's InfoKey) in place, and prevents it from sliding forward and off, or backwards and off.
  • The leading or trailing edges of the Dock Bezel will also smoothen off, and will no longer remain firmly "docked" in place in the Dock.
Replacement Docks and Bezels are available separately. They are also available as a Dock kit, which contains a new Dock, fastener, and set of three Bezels (Dock, Lanyard and Smooth). The Wrist Strap Bezel is available separately. We highly recommend the Segway InfoKey Protector kit to all of our customers. This kit provides a rubberised surround to help protect the casing and buttons from knocks and drops, and a clear screen protector to help protect the screen from scratches and damage ($55+GST). Protector kits are also available in colours for $65+GST. infokey-coloured-protectors.jpg Always keep in mind that your InfoKey is a valuable and sophisticated device. As a remote control it both transmits and receives, has a back-lit screen, and a unique transmission protocol to prevent hacking (it does not use WiFi or Bluetooth). Each key starts off blank, and must be individually programmed by Segway New Zealand to a particular Segway PT. Replacement InfoKeys are $517.39+GST ($595) including delivery, so we think the Wrist Strap kit and InfoKey Protector kit are great investments.
