Navimow: spiked wheel discs

If you're ready to go where no Navimow has gone before, slip on a pair of spiked heels wheel discs.

The Navimow H-series is able to climb 24 degree (45%) slopes on lawns. On a nice, smooth slope Navimow might even climb steeper grades than that. But if the ground is rougher than a typical lawn, and the grass is slippery and wet, the mower may struggle around this limit because the effective slope is greater than 24 degrees in the dips and rises — sometimes much greater. Consequently, the mower may struggle or get trapped when it encounters such holes and bumps.

Adding a pair of aftermarket wheel spikes to H-series can make all the difference in situations like these, enabling Navimow to climb with ease and turn accurately without slippage. Even on relatively flat ground a pair of spikes can result in a slight increase in speed due to improved traction — especially on slippery, spongy grasses such as kikuyu.

On the down side, during autumn spikes may tend to pierce and collect fallen leaves (although their presence does not seem to affect performance at all). Removing a build-up of leaves is super-quick and easy to do — just pull them off with your hands. If you don't, they tend to "self-clean" and fall off over time by themselves in any case.

In muddy conditions dirt can build up between the spikes and wheel tread — simply hose it off. And remember, if this is happening on your wheels then this is a good time to check underneath your Navimow because there will likely be a build-up of wet grass on the underside as well. Mowing efficiency will be improved if you scrap, wash or blow it away.

If you'd prefer your Navimow not to mow in the rain you can adjust this using the Rain Sensor setting in the Navimow App. In addition to turning it OFF or ON, you can also adjust its sensitivity if you set it ON. For example, you can set Navimow to return to the Charging Station at the first spits of rain, or set it to keep mowing until the rain becomes moderate or heavy.

Navimow H-series standard wheels have been carefully engineered to provide the best performance in almost every situation. For most people, they are all you need. For those edge-case environments or at certain times of the year, a pair of spiked wheel discs are a great option for some.

Pairs of high quality stainless steel spikes are in stock now to buy from Segway New Zealand.
