Red Badge has purchased and deployed a Segway i2SE Patroller at The Base shopping centre in Hamilton.
Configured with white super-reflective shields, amber/white flashing LED lights, and Segway Comfort Mats to reduce rider fatigue, the Segway Patroller will contribute to public safety and reduce response times across this sprawling 29 hectare (72 acre) complex.
Red Badge have a long history using Segway Personal Transporter (PT) devices, including at Auckland Showgrounds and at parades on Queen Street - here's a quote from our 'Shows Galore' article published 23 October 2009:
Red Badge Security had four officers on PTs as part of the annual 10th annual Boobs On Bikes parade down Queen St, Auckland. The event was flanked by dozens of police officers along the 2km street, who were overheard saying phrases like “That’s what we need, why arn’t the NZ Police on PTs yet?”. Red Badge staff were impressed with the capabilities of the PT, and used them again at the associated Erotica exhibition a few days later, where show attendees could ride a PT for a gold coin donation raising money for Breast Cancer treatment.
The many, many benefits of putting staff onto Segway PTs to improve quality of service has been proven again and again throughout New Zealand and around the world over the past two decades.
Security guards on Segway Patrollers have been deployed at The Base for about a decade, when previous contractors provided the service.
