One of the very best wineries on Waiheke Island now has a Segway Navimow keeping the grassed areas around its stunning restaurant building beautifully mowed.
Tantalus Estate has three areas where Navimow really shines. There is the outdoor bar and entertainment area complete with umbrellas and chairs during the day (that converts to a party zone on selected summer evenings with a DJ mixing the beats), the grassed verges alongside the long driveway leading up to the restaurant, and the "wedding walk" where couples get married.
This property is an example of a layout where Navimow's boundary wire-free set-up makes it easy to adjust the areas being mowed as needs change during the year, or even from day to day.
For example, since January bird netting has being draped and pinned over rows of vines to protect the grapes, and pinned to the ground. This means Navimow needs to keep 1.5m further out from the ends of the rows. By the beginning of April these nets will be gone and the grapes will have been picked. So Navimow can be quickly re-mapped to mow closer to the vines again.
Navimow is safe to operate in public areas, and mows the verge and open areas during the day. At Tantalus, mowing the in entertainment area is scheduled from after the bar closes in the evening through until midday. During this time the lawn chairs are packed away, meaning Navimow can operate much more efficiently (instead of having to interrupt its intended mowing direction to avoid dozens of chairs scattered across the lawn).
