Segway-Ninebot have launched a range of new products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, USA.
The CES is always a very hotly anticipated event, and the place where Segway has showcased many exciting new products and concepts in previous years. Check out, as examples, the EN-V (2012) self-balancing pod-vehicle of the future from Segway, Inc, the Segway Robotics Loomo (2016), or the Segway-Ninebot Segway S-Pod (2020).
This year, new products range from Segway Robotics Navimow robot lawnmowers to Segway PowerSports ATVs, new Segway e-bikes and power banks, plus new and updated Ninebot e-scooters.
The long-awaited launch into the America market for Segway Navimow robot lawnmowers was announced. The acclaimed Navimow H-series has been available in UK and EU markets for 18 months or so, where it was launched first in Germany mid-2022. At launch in the USA the H-series will be joined by the new, smaller and less expensive I-series. Offering both larger and smaller chassis options, each with a range of models to cover varying lawn sizes, means Navimow will be able to address a very broad market.
Navimow's "secret sauce" is that it does not require a boundary wire to be installed around the edge of the lawn. Instead, it uses a combination of GPS satellites overhead and a high-frequency transmitted located near the Navimow's charging station to triangular location accuracy down to 2cm, amongst other technologies (known rate of distance travelled per wheel rotation, vision and ultrasonic sensors, impact sensors, etc). Tom's Guide has an opinion here.
Segway also announced two electric bicycles, one of which is pretty much a motorbike.
The Segway Xyber draws broadly from the design language of the Segway electric Dirt Bike X160 and X260 (these proved very popular in New Zealand - we sold every unit we could lay our hands on between 2020 and 2022). But the Xyber might be aimed just as much at adventures in the urban jungle as off-roading on real jungle tracks, it is difficult to tell just yet. Torque is 175 N-m and 0 to 32 km/h is just 2.5 seconds.
With a 750 watt motor and two batteries, it meets an e-bike definition in the United States (which generally permit 1 h.p. or 750 watt motors....making NZ's 300 watt limit seem rather tame). It almost looks like there's enough room for a 3rd battery, perhaps for a pedal-less variant? Or how about using that space for a much larger motor to drives the rear wheel for true dirt bike performance? But otherwise that space will make for a handy cargo area. Either which way, there is 120mm of travel front and rear on the suspension, so it built to take on some major bumps.
The Segway Xafari is a very stylish wide-tyre step-through adventure bike. According to Electric:
The frame of the Xafari hides more than just a large battery. There’s also hidden rear suspension just above the rear swingarm. That creates a full-suspension setup in a design that looks similar to most hard-tail adventure-style electric bikes on the market today. With 70mm of front suspension and 80mm of rear suspension, as well as 3-inch balloon tires, the Segway Xafari is well-equipped for trails and other off-road riding.
Other new products include:
- KickScooters (E2 Pro and SuperScooter ST1)
- More powerful self-balancing mini personal transporters able to power the new Gokart Pro 2 to a top speed some 6km/h faster than the previous model
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) energy storage banks
- Segway PowerSports ATVs
