"Two decades later, it just might" (CNN 2018)

This article "Segway was supposed to change the world. Two decades later it just might" from CNN (30 October 2018) provides an excellent background and update about the company that began as US-based Segway, Inc. and is now global personal transportation powerhouse Segway-Ninebot Group.

In the five years since it was written many events have unfolded.

The Covid pandemic provided further impetus for growth in the burgeoning KickScooter segment and an expansion of Segway-Ninebot's offerings across a variety of micro mobility products. These include go karts, electric unicycles, self-balancing e-skates for kids, dirt e-bikes for adults, power-sports vehicles and robotics (including lawn mowers).

Equally, the pandemic had impacts on labour and supply-chains, and saw the closure of the original Bedford (New Hampshire, USA) plant resulting in manufacture of the full-sized Segway Personal Transporter (PT) moving solely to China. Additionally, reduced travel caused great difficulties for privately owned Segway Tour businesses around the world.
